What type of organization is ProjectEDUCATE?

Why does ProjectEDUCATE focus on education?

We put the emphasis on education because it is empowering. It gives people the knowledge, skill and attitude to become active and productive members of their communities. Education is thus an indispensable component to development.

How did ProjectEDUCATE get started?

ProjectEDUCATE started as an attempt to create long term solutions to the poor quality of education in Zambia. Initially the idea was simply to provide books to school but as we begun implementation and in talking to communities, it became very clear that much more could be done.

Does ProjectEDUCATE accept donations?

Yes. We accept both financial and in-kind donations.

How does ProjectEDUCATE raise money?

ProjectEDUCATE raises money through fundraisers. We also have individuals, students groups, social and service clubs that independently organize fundraisers and donate the proceeds to support ProjectEDUCATE. Our work is very much dependent on such groups and we encourage you to seriously consider organizing a fundraiser for ProjectEDUCATE. We also have a number of fundraising programs that you can undertaken at no cost to you or your group. If you are interested in supporting ProjectEDUCATE in this way, please contact us with details your interest.

Is ProjectEDUCATE a religious organization?

No. ProjectEDUCATE is not a religious organization. Our services are provided to everyone regardless of religious affiliation.

Does ProjectEDUCATE work with the Zambian government?

Yes. In addition to supporting government owned schools, we try to include relevant Government Ministries and agencies in planning, implementation and evaluation.

Does ProjectEDUCATE partners only with U.S based organizations?

No. Although a large number of our partners are used based, we are always looking to collaborate and partner with related organizations around the world.


About ProjectEDUCATE's Programs

What are ProjectEDUCATE's programs?

ProjectEDUCATE has a number of programs and initiatives. Individually they are designed to address specific areas. Collectively, they are strategic tools designed to address the root causes of poverty.

How are they created?

Our programs are designed with the community's need in mind. We talk to various partners about the issues they face and come up with programs that address issues in the context in which they exist in communities.

How are they implemented?

All of our Programs are implemented with the help and support of community partners in the communities in which we work. Our Educational and Development partners also play key roles in the implementation process rendering their expertise and resources to make for effective and successful implementation.

Who implements them?

All ProjectEDUCATE initiatives are implemented by ProjectEDUCATE staff and volunteers with the support of the communities in which we work and the help of our partners.

Does ProjectEDUCATE charge for its services?

No. ProjectEDUCATE provides its services free of charge. However depending on circumstances, sometimes we do ask for user fees to help offset the customs and transportation costs.

Who do they serve?

All of our initiatives serve under-served and underprivileged communities.

Are they successful?

All indicators are that our programs have been met with much success. Breaking barrier that have previously not been and creating a model that can be learn from.

Why are they successful?

ProjectEDUCATE's success can be attributed to a number of things, among them is the fact that all of our initiatives have been designed and implemented in collaborating with the communities in which we work and thus fostering a sense of ownership. The other is that we make a deliberate effort to address issues in the context in which they exist in communities. Making sure that resources are relevant to community needs and that communities have the necessary skill to make effective use of such resources.

Are donations to ProjectEDUCATE tax-deductible?

Yes. Donations are tax-deductible.

How do I donate if I don't have a PayPal account?

You can still donate online even if you don't have a paypal account. An alternative is to donate by mail.

Can I donate by check?

Yes you can donated by check. Please make all checks out to Teachers Without Borders with ProjectEDUCATE in the memo.

How do I know how my donation is spent?

Every year we post our annual report showing how funds have been utilized. You can also ask that your donation go to a specific program and we will send you a report at the end of the year.

90 cents of every dollar goes to direct program support.

What are community partners?

Our community partners are all the individuals and organizations that we work with in implementing our initiatives. They are located in the communities in which we work and are the beneficiaries of ProjectEDUCATE programs and initiatives.

How does ProjectEDUCATE work with Community Partners?

Community partners are the individuals and communities that are beneficiaries of ProjectEDUCATE's work. We use them to determine community needs and implements solutions.

How does ProjectEDUCATE select its community partners?

Generally, interested parties come to us to request a partnership. We also send out Information about our programs to the community.

What are the community partners' responsibilities?

Among other things Communities partners are responsible for ensuring they have basic infrastructure and that donations are used for the purposes for which they were donated.

Our Educational partners are drawn from the non-profit and for profit, governmental and non-governmental agencies. They provide direct educational support, whether it be training, educational supplies or funding. Educational partners also help in the design and implementation of programs.

Why does ProjectEDUCATE use community partners?

Educational partnerships allow us to work with related organizations to help implement programs. Enabling us to leverage resources and share our experiences.

How does ProjectEDUCATE select its community partners?

We choose our educational partners based on their work. We specifically we look for shared interest, a common goal toward which we can all pool our resources and expertise to address needs.

What are Development Partners?

Our Development Partnership are mainly drawn from the business community. They include corporations, foundations and service groups. Develop partners provide sponsorship that helps support our programming. They also support us by underwriting and offsetting the cost of shipping and/or specific program implementation.

Development partners play a vital role in our work. Helping to leverage resources including funding and thereby ensuring the successful implementation of our work.
